Everything grows quickly in the heat and humidity, the sun and the storms of the tropics - mold, moss, ferns, creepers, weeds, mosquitoes... Design in the tropics does not have to contend with the harshness of winter or vary with the seasons. But the ease with which our buildings, bicycles, books - things - succumb to the life that heat and humidity breeds poses different challenges. Since we cannot keep out this tropical life, can our designs work with it, live and age with it, or embrace it even?
